"Special player" - Andy Robertson on Thiago's performance against Man United

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson was full of praise for teammate Thiago Alcantara after the club's 4-0 victory over Manchester United last Tuesday night.

The Spaniard was superb against the Red Devils. Thiago simply ran the game from the middle of the park.

With that being the case, Robertson lauded the 31-year-old post-game.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, the Scotland international told LiverpoolFC.com the following: “The standing ovation he got, I think he deserved. But, to be honest, if any one of us came off, I think they deserved that standing ovation. As a whole team, I thought we were outstanding.

“I thought the midfield three worked so hard. Thiago’s a special player and the performances he’s putting in just now are exceptional and he needs to keep that going.

“He played at a really high standard but I thought Fabinho and (Jordan) Henderson were outstanding as well and did the dirty work, won the ball back – and so did Thiago.

“Playing on my side, it felt as if he was everywhere and we just kind of fed off each other, winning balls back. All three of us down the left worked really hard. A fantastic team performance but the standing ovation he got, he fully deserved.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We completely agree with Robertson's take. Thiago certainly deserved the standing ovation from the Anfield faithful.

We were not remotely surprised to see the midfielder play the way he did. There is a reason why Thiago has played for the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

He is simply brilliant to watch when he is at his best. If Thiago can put in similar performances between now and the end of the season, Liverpool could potentially win the quadruple.

The Reds have already claimed the League Cup this season. But, they are in contention for the Premier League title, Champions League and FA Cup.
