Spanish midfielder confirms he's ready to join Liverpool

A Spanish midfielder could be the next midfielder walking through the doors at Liverpool.

Andoni Iraola hasn't ignited a Spanish revolution at Anfield just yet. It's not been quite like Rafa Benitez, who brought with him a Spanish coaching staff and a lot of players as well.

What an era that was. From Luis Garcia to Xabi Alonso and of course Fernando Torres. So many club icons became fan favourites at Anfield from Spain and it was all thanks to Benitez.

Now this summer Victor Munoz was brought in from the country, fresh off the back of winning the World Cup.

And then Ronald Araujo, while not technically Spanish, was signed from Barcelona, and he of course speaks Spanish, which will help Iraola in terms of giving him instructions.

But more Spanish speaking players could be on the way soon.

Liverpool's plans to buy a new midfielder

It was made pretty clear by Alexis Mac Allister himself that he's not yet been offered a new contract by the Reds.

During the summer window Liverpool were open to selling the Argentine star. He is 28-years-old at the end of the day and is at an age where the Reds are not keen to offer long-term deals.

Ultimately, Mac Allister stayed, and he's enjoyed a revival under Iraola.

The last few games he's proved he might just be Liverpool's best midfielder.

However, long-term Liverpool will be in the market for a younger player. Lamine Camara is already on the club's radar as well as another Spaniard, who proved against the Reds he is ready to join Iraola's side.

Pablo Barrios confirms he's ready to join Liverpool

Camara seems to be the number one target for the Reds. However, Anfield Watch understands Barrios is another player the Reds like.

On Wednesday night, the Atletico Madrid midfielder had the ultimate test against Liverpool. Playing at Anfield is not an easy task, especially on a European night.

But he showed he's ready to play for the Reds with a brilliant performance.

Barrios won the most duels (8), was the most fouled player (2) on the pitch and completed 51 out of 56 passes.

It was a terrific performance and it confirmed that he has everything to play for Liverpool. Barrios is intelligent, he has a high level footballing IQ and he is so calm and composed on the ball while also having the ability to be tenacious and put in some tough challenges.

Whether the Reds will pull the trigger, only time will tell. But he's showed he is a serious option for Liverpool.
