Social media reacts to Xabi Alonso's agonising decision to snub Liverpool

Liverpool supporters received the news that they didn't want to hear on Thursday evening, with Xabi Alonso now looking extremely unlikely to take over from Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout.
The Bayer Leverkusen boss and former Liverpool midfielder had been the club's first-choice candidate to take over from Klopp this summer, but he appears certain to stay at the BayArena instead.
It proved a devastating blow to supporters, many of whom had already invested in the prospect of Alonso returning to Merseyside.

There is no doubting that Thursday evening's news came as a shock to the club's supporters, with Liverpool fans mourning the loss of what could have been this summer.
However, while the news was disappointing, there were plenty of people admiring Alonso's decision to stick it out with Bayer Leverkusen despite the advances of some of his former clubs.
And, of course, attention quickly turned to who could actually replace Klopp in the hot seat, with Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim the clear front-runner among supporters after Alonso dropped out of the race.
However, Amorim isn't the only name on the list, with Liverpool fans having mixed feelings about other options such as Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi and Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann.
