Social media reaction as Jurgen Klopp announces Liverpool departure
Jurgen Klopp shook the footballing world on Friday morning when he announced his decision to step down as Liverpool boss come the end of the season.
The 56-year-old arrived at Anfield back in 2015 and made good on his promise to turn 'doubters into believers', delivering seven trophies for Liverpool supporters in under a decade.
The German has quickly become one of the most decorated and well-respected coaches in the club's illustrious history, but has taken the decision to leave Merseyside come the end of the campaign.
Liverpool released a video of Klopp addressing supporters on social media, the former Borussia Dortmund manager attributing his tough decision to a lack of energy to go "again and again and again."
There was understandable shock at the decision, with no real warning signs. In fact, having just completed a summer rebuild following a difficult campaign, there were even suggestions that Klopp may renew his deal with the club.
It's fair to say that it sent social media into a frenzy...
Shock quickly turned into a reminder of the simply sensational job that Klopp has done since arriving at Anfield, the Liverpool manager forging himself as one of the best coaches the world has ever seen.
For all the trophies, memories and wonderful moments, there was an outpouring of emotion.
Despite the devastating news, the season isn't over yet. That means there is plenty of time for Klopp to add to his legacy at Liverpool, with the Reds still in the hunt for four trophies this season,
And there were already some planning Liverpool's future, with supporters unanimous in who they would like to see replace Klopp in the Anfield dugout.
That man being Xabi Alonso.
