Slot's FORMATION, Darwin CALL, Gakpo on FORM - Liverpool FC news recap
Here’s our Liverpool FC news recap for Saturday, 6th July. Arne Slot has given everyone an idea of what’s to come.
Arne Slot addresses formation
Arne Slot fired back at a reporter who suggested that he used a 4-2-3-1 formation during his time at Feyenoord as he attended his first Liverpool press conference.
The 45-year-old answered questions from journalists for the first time as new Liverpool head coach on Friday morning, alongside recently appointed sporting director Richard Hughes.
Asked about the 4-2-3-1 formation Slot used at his previous club Feyenoord, the new Liverpool boss suggested that he actually didn't use that tactical setup in Rotterdam.
"I’m a bit sad, maybe it’s not the right word, but I was hoping that if people look at my team they would not say it’s a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 or whatever formation you want to call it," replied Slot.

Gakpo on sparkling form
Cody Gakpo has credited Liverpool for his incredible form at Euro 2024 with the Netherlands ahead of this Saturday's quarter-final with Turkey.
The 25-year-old has been exceptional in Germany, grabbing three goals and an assist for the Dutch as they reached the last eight of the competition.
Gakpo arguably saved his best performance of the tournament for the last 16 clash with Romania earlier in the week, firing the Oranje in front with a near-post strike and showing brilliant persistence to set up Donyell Malen during a 3-0 victory.

Slot talks with Nunez
New Liverpool head coach Arne Slot says he’s already talked to Darwin Nunez - and made it very clear where he’s playing next season.
Arne Slot says he has already talked things over with Darwin Nunez, despite the Uruguayan being a few weeks before joining back up with Liverpool. Nunez is currently at the Copa America in the USA, where his country have a fantastic chance of winning it all.
Nunez is in fantastic form for his country, too. To the point where he's almost a different player to the one we've seen at Anfield - their recent win over the USA was the first time in eight games that he didn't score.

Arne Slot says he first visited Anfield back in 2017 - as a guest of then-sporting director Michael Edwards. Edwards, of course, now heads up football operations for FSG after returning earlier this year.
And Slot wasn't too far behind. He agreed to become Liverpool manager a few months ago before officially taking up the role in June. Now, though, he's revealed how his first meeting with Edwards came seven years ago.

Reds like Dorgu
Liverpool have been interested in young Lecce full-back Patrick Dorgu 'for months', according to an Italian report.
19-year-old Dorgu enjoyed a terrific campaign in Serie A last term, playing 32 times for Lecce as they achieved a respectable 14th-placed finish.
The left-back, who scored twice in 17 league starts, wowed during his breakout season in senior football, and the Denmark under-21 international is attracting interest from Europe's elite sides as a result.
Dorgu has previously been linked with several Serie A giants, including Milan, Napoli and recent Europa League winners Atalanta, but the teenager is also appreciated by a number of Premier League sides.
