Here’s our Liverpool FC news recap for Saturday, 20th July 2024. Arne Slot addressed the fans after the Reds’ defeat.
Arne Slot on Liverpool defeat
Not a perfect start for Liverpool, then, as they lost 1-0 to Preston but one with some positives. It wasn't a serious friendly, after all, but more an attempt to get some competitive fitness under the players.
Arne Slot talked about the game afterwards and had some positive things to say. No, this wasn't the right result but he saw things he wanted to see.
“Yes, yes, definitely [I saw my ideas out there]," Slot told LFCTV. "I’ve seen this a lot during the training sessions – maybe a bit more than today – but that also had to do with the playing style of the opponent.

Sturridge on his Liverpool move
Daniel Sturridge spoke to FourFourTwo recently where he explained how Liverpool convinced him to leave Chelsea. Essentially, it came down to the data.
"It was in how they relayed their plan to me of what they wanted to do and what they wanted to achieve," he said. "They talked a lot about the statistics; the Moneyball type of thing. I think I was one of the first players, if not the first, that they’d signed with that in mind, which was all based on stats.
A little dig from Godfrey
Former Everton defender Ben Godfrey couldn't help himself when he was unveiled as a new Atalanta player this week, aiming a cheeky dig at the other side of Merseyside to quickly endear himself to his new fans.
The versatile defender, now 26, completed a permanent move to the Italian side this week for a fee of approximately £8.4 million (€10 million).
Speaking to the media in Italy during his presentation on Thursday, Godfrey mentioned consulting his former manager Carlo Ancelotti before making the decision to move to Serie A.

Warnock unsure about Olmo interest
One man admiring Dani Olmo is ex-Reds full-back Stephen Warnock, who thinks the Spaniard would impress at Liverpool.
“Dani Olmo is such an exciting player,” he told BetVictor. “He’s so underrated. I do like Olmo because he would add so much quality.”
Yet, beyond having to shell out big money for his services, his place in the lineup presents a headache, Warnock suggests.
“My only concern with Liverpool signing Olmo is they already have so many players in that position: Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliot, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai,” added Warnock.
