Sky Sports pundits condemn 'unprofessional' Liverpool star

Following Liverpool’s emphatic win at Old Trafford, there was little if anything for the fans of Arne Slot's team to be disheartened or concerned about.

However, one moment during the game had the away side's supporters scratching their heads, when a midfielder’s decision making was found to be unusually errant.

Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher were quick to criticise the player in question.

Deep into the second half, Liverpool were cruising at 3-0 and calmly keeping possession and making sure the defensive foundations were solid to secure a clean sheet.

However, Slot's side suddenly broke and the ball was presented to Dominik Szoboszlai in the centre of the opposition box. The goal was practically open and all he had to do was sidefoot home. The Hungarian decided to take a couple of touches instead, which allowed the United defenders to close in and block, and a golden chance was wasted.

Admittedly, Liverpool were already home and dry but this didn’t stop Neville and Carragher calling out the midfielder.

Neville stated:

"He's messing around there; he should be absolutely rollicked by his teammates for that - that's a liberty."

Carragher then also chimed in saying, "What is he doing? Just finish it. [He's] trying to be cocky."

Clearly the duo were frustrated with Szoboszlai's lack of professionalism in this situation. However, is the criticism a bit too harsh? If the situation was different and Liverpool weren’t as comfortable as they were, the midfielder may have thought twice about his actions and smashed the ball into the back of the net.

One X user jokingly posted: "Full respect to Szoboszlai for deliberately killing his chance to make it 4-0 and instead keeping the scoreline respectable. This means more."

It seems as though Neville and Carragher saw it as some type of showboating from Szoboszlai but their comments seem way out of proprotion.

That moment aside, Liverpool's no.8 has made a fantastic start to this first season under Slot, also providing the assist for Salah’s goal on Sunday.

Here's to more of the same after the international break when he'll proudly represent Hungary.
