"See where I’m at" - Nat Phillips hints about his future

Liverpool defender Nat Phillips has hinted that he could be on the move after pre-season ends.

When speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Phillips was asked what his personal goals are for this pre-season.

“Get a good pre-season in me, same as always; work hard and make sure I’ve got a good foundation for the season that’s coming up. At the end of pre-season see where I’m at," he said.

“Definitely in my case, but I think for all players, every pre-season is an opportunity for all players, young and old, to show what they can do, stake their claim.

“That’s the way you’ve got to approach it and maintain high levels throughout the pre-season going into the season.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Even though Phillips had a very successful loan spell with Bournemouth during the second-half of the 2021-22 season, there haven't been too many rumours surrounding his immediate future.

At the beginning of the transfer window, a report came out claiming that the Reds wanted £15 million for the 26-year-old centre-back.

Phillips helped Bournemouth secure promotion (17 Championship appearances) to the Premier League last season. Therefore, the Cherries were interested in signing Phillips a few months ago, but not much has transpired.

It's honestly a surprise to me that not many clubs are knocking at Liverpool's door trying to secure Phillips' signature this summer.

He is Premier League and Champions League proven, something you wouldn't expect to get for a player valued at £15 million in today's market.

Yes, he may not be that fancy on the eye, but for a big man, he's surprisingly good on the ball.

I would have no issue with Phillips staying at Liverpool to be our fifth-choice centre-back, but I honestly think he deserves better than that.

There are still a few weeks until the transfer window closes and I would definitely expect clubs to be in for Phillips before then.
