Saudi Pro League still 'desperately want' Mohamed Salah

The Saudi Pro League are refusing to quit in their pursuit of Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and still 'desperately want' to sign the winger soon.

The Egyptian has been typically fantastic again this season, netting 16 goals and providing eight assists in all competitions for the Reds. Salah's brilliance has been key to Liverpool's Premier League campaign and is one of the reasons they sit top of the table at present.

However, there continues to be lingering doubts about his future.

Salah was strongly linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League towards the end of last summer, the 31-year-old considered the crown jewel for football's new financial powerhouse.

Liverpool were understandably insistent that Salah wasn't for sale and the Reds' No. 11 was more than happy to stick around at Anfield, but rumours persist regarding an eventual move to Asia.

Sky Sports' Dharmesh Sheth has suggested that the Saudi Pro League are still incredibly keen to sign Salah as soon as possible, although it would be almost impossible for a deal to be done in January.

Speaking on the Transfer Talk podcast, Sheth stated: "We mentioned it at the top, Saudi Arabia aren't going to stop. This is the real deal, they want to bring in some of the best players in the world.

"It is no secret they desperately want Mohamed Salah in the Saudi Pro League. They want him.

"Are they going to get him in January? You could almost guarantee that there is no chance of that happening because Liverpool simply won't entertain that. Come the summer, he's got 12 months left on his contract. That's when it's going to come to a head.

"Whether the position of Liverpool [changes], what happens this season, what Mohamed Salah wants to do, what kind of talks they'll have over a new contract [remains to be seen].

But obviously it will have to come to a head in the summer because they don't want to be in a position, Liverpool, where they're not going to get any money for him if he's going to see out his contract and not sign a new deal.

"There's nothing to say that he won't sign a new deal at Liverpool. We don't know what's going to happen on that front. What we do know is that Saudi Arabia do want Mohamed Salah.

"Are they going to stop pursuing him? No."

As expected, it seems Salah will certainly be a Liverpool player come the end of the season, If the Reds sold the Egyptian in January, there would be riots on Merseyside.

However, a potential summer exit cannot be ruled out and would make sense if Salah doesn't want to commit his future to the Reds, especially given Saudi Arabia will likely offer vast sums of money for the then 32-year-old.

As Sheth states, there is still a good chance that Salah signs a new contract with the Reds, but we will have to wait and see what happens next summer.
