Richard Hughes and Liverpool plan to reject some big-money offers coming their way for a first-team star this summer.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Alisson Becker was the subject of approaches from Saudi Pro League sides in March. Nothing is yet advanced but the contact is there.

Liverpool, however, aren't intending to accept offers and plan on starting the season with Alisson. The 'priority' for both parties is for the Brazilian to remain at Anfield.

"Understand Liverpool are planning with Alisson as part of their squad for next season despite Saudi links,” Romano wrote on X. "There were approaches from Saudi clubs in March but nothing advanced, concrete so far.

"Alisson and Liverpool’s priority is to continue together."

It appears there is a little ways to go, then - but Liverpool will have a big decision here either way.

Liverpool head towards Alisson Becker decision

Romano is far from the first to say that there's interest from Saudi Arabia in Alisson. The Guardian claimed towards the end of the season that the league wanted a top-class goalkeeper and had earmarked Liverpool's no.1 as their prime target.

But that only works if Liverpool want to sell - and they almost certainly don't.

There is, however, an extra angle here. Caoimhin Kelleher wants to be a no.1 at a club and he's not going to get that at Anfield unless Alisson leaves.

Now, the Irishman is not on Alisson's level just yet and no one would argue he is. But in a year or two? It's very possible he ends up being the better long-term option.

Given Liverpool could also secure a massive amount of money for Alisson this summer, too, it might be a little tempting to listen to offers. But it appears they won't bother.

And honestly, that's likely the smart option. Kelleher is a wonderful talent but Alisson is the world's best goalkeeper and should still play at the top level for another three or four years at least.

Kelleher might play at the top level for 10 years - but guaranteeing the rest of Alisson's prime is something Liverpool shouldn't pass up.
