Ryan Gravenberch has revealed that Jurgen Klopp instructed him to 'feel free' ahead of his first Liverpool start.

21-year-old Gravenberch was the Reds final signing of the summer transfer window, arriving in a £34m deal from Bayern Munich on Deadline Day to complete Klopp's much-discussed midfield rebuild.

As a late arrival, fans had to wait a while to see the Dutch star in action, with Gravenberch making a cameo off the bench in the Reds' victory over Wolves last weekend.

However, the former Ajax midfielder was handed his first start for Liverpool's Europa League opener in Austria on Thursday evening, impressing with an assist in the 3-1 comeback win over LASK.

Speaking after the game, Gravenberch told Liverpoolfc.com how Klopp had given him some advice in training before the game.

He said: "Yesterday after training he came to me and said to me [to] feel free, you know, you can do whatever you want, of course you have to do your things, but he just said feel free and show yourself and the Ryan you are."

Gravenberch also admitted his overall play was occasionally 'sloppy'.

"We didn't start so well, but we had the mentality and we turned it around again, so I was very happy with the game,"he said. "For myself, it was good but also sloppy sometimes, so I have to work on that and the rest was OK."

On his assist for Luis Diaz's second-half finish to put Liverpool 2-1 up, the former Bayern star said: "I saw the space behind and I saw Harvey [Elliott] got the ball and he played it to me, and I saw Lucho in the corner, so it was a nice cross and he finished it well."
