Liverpool have been put on red alert due to the contract situation of Wolves and Portugal midfielder Ruben Neves.

The 25-year-old, who has played 235 games in all competitions for Julen Lopetegui's side, has 18 months left on his deal and the Daily Mirror's Simon Mullock believes that Liverpool could make their move for the Portuguese.

NEVES AND NUNES AT ANFIELD BY NEXT SEASON?

With Liverpool seemingly also bringing in another Portuguese midfielder from Wolves in Matheus Nunes next summer, Ruben Neves becomes the latest player to be linked to joining Jurgen Klopp's side. Neves can play centrally and as a defensive midfielder, and has shown his ability over the years to score some ridiculous and unbelievable goals in the Championship and Premier League.

He has been linked with moves to Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea over the years, but with his contract ticking down at Molineux, this could be the chance to go to Wolves and tempt them into selling.

Jurgen Klopp is also an admirer of Neves, and with him not in any rush to discuss extending his deal, this could be a major opportunity for Liverpool to sign a Premier League proven midfielder who is capable of the spectacular, who could also reunite with former Wolves teammate Diogo Jota at Anfield should he decide to move.

What do we think of this one Reds fans?

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

To this day I am amazed that no one has snapped up Ruben Neves. He would improve a team's midfield instantly - has leadership qualities having been captain at Molineux, can sit deep and start attacks and also has the ability to score breathtaking goals on his own. Wolves fans must be concerned that he only has 18 months left on his deal - if Klopp is an admirer he should go all out to bring him in. With the rumours of Nunes joining in the summer and with Neves' Portugal teammate Jota also at Anfield after they played together for Wolves, this feels like a no-brainer signing.
