Crystal Palace cancelled a press conference on Thursday after Roy Hodgson was 'taken ill' during a training session.

The 76-year-old, who managed Liverpool in the 2010/11 season, has reportedly been on the verge of the sack at Selhurst Park following a string of bad results.

While it had been expected that an announcement over Hodgson's removal was imminent, Palace instead posted a statement on X on Thursday afternoon, revealing the manager was unwell.

The post read: "Unfortunately, today’s press conference will no longer take place as scheduled as Roy Hodgson was taken ill during this morning’s training session."

The Telegraph has since reported that Hodgson "was taken to hospital on the advice of club medical staff", while he is "understood to have made a recovery and is speaking to friends and doctors."

He is not expected to be in the dugout for the clash with Everton on Monday.

Hodgson's Palace have lost ten of their last 16 Premier League matches with the Eagles 15th in the table following a 3-1 home defeat by Chelsea.

The veteran manager has come under fire from fans and pundits in recent weeks, while banners calling for his removal have been seen at Selhurst Park.

Former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner has been tipped to take over.

The 49-year-old won the Europa League with Frankfurt in 2022, beating Rangers on penalties in the final. The Austrian has been out of work since last summer, after leaving Frankfurt at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Hodgson took over as Liverpool manager back in 2010, following a successful spell at Fulham during which he reached the Europa League final.

He lasted just half a season at Anfield, however, as the Reds struggled during a period of transition and was sacked in January of 2011 to be replaced by Kenny Dalglish.

Following the failure at Liverpool, Hodgson resurrected his career at West Brom and later earned the job of England manager, which he held for four years.

He is in his second stint at Crystal Palace, having been re-appointed in March 2023. He is the oldest manager in the history of the Premier League.
