Real Madrid winger Rodrygo has revealed what Luka Modric said to Mohamed Salah after the 2022 Champions League final.

Prior to the game, the Liverpool winger said that he wanted to face Real Madrid, and he got his wish.

"I want to play Madrid (in the final), I have to be honest," Salah told BT Sport, as quoted by Sporting News. "Manchester City is a really tough team, we've played against them a few times this season, but if you asked me personally, I'd like to play Madrid."

However, Salah's words came back to haunt him, as Liverpool lost 1-0 to the La Liga club in Paris. Vinicius Junior's goal was the difference between the two sides.

With that being the case, Real Madrid midfielder Modric had some choice words for the Egyptian international post-match, according to Rodrygo.

As quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter, he told the Podpah podcast the following: "When the Champions League final was over, Luka Modric passed in front of Salah and said, 'next time you try again.'"

Anfield Watch Verdict

We do believe that Salah's comments were taken out of proportion. Real Madrid defeated Liverpool 3-1 in the 2018 Champions League final.

So, we could fully understand why Salah wanted to face the La Liga team in the 2022 final. He wanted to put things right.

However, most people misinterpreted Salah's comments, including the Real Madrid players.

We aren't surprised to hear that Modric had something to say to the winger post-game.

But, that's football. It is a competitive sport, so emotions do get the better of people from time-to-time.

Hopefully Liverpool can put the conclusion of last season behind them and qualify for the 2023 Champions League final.
