Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has praised Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold for his assist against Villarreal at the Estadio de la Ceramica on Tuesday night.

During the aforementioned Champions League semi-final second leg clash, the 23-year-old whipped a ball into the penalty area with his opposite foot which found teammate Luis Diaz.

The Colombia international found the back of the net as a result of Alexander-Arnold's pass.

Ferdinand lauded the Scouser post-game for having the ability to use his non-preferred foot.

“Trent could cross this ball with his right foot,” the 43-year-old told BT Sport (03/05/2022 10:19pm BST).

“This is the difference between Trent and a lot of other players. He is now adding the left foot to his armoury. Most other right backs there get the ball out of their feet on the right foot and cross it."

Anfield Watch Verdict

All we will say is that Alexander-Arnold is such a weapon going forward. The right-back has scored 12 goals and registered 61 assists in 220 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.

Alexander-Arnold is basically an extra attacker out on the pitch.

The scary thing about the defender is that he is only 23 years of age. Who knows how good he could become.

There has been suggestions from people within the media that Alexander-Arnold should eventually transition into midfield because of his attacking prowess.

But, we don't agree. Alexander-Arnold offers far too much quality from out wide, so why change something that is not broken?

Sure, the Scouser still has room for improvement when it comes to his defending. However, we are confident over time that he will mature into a very fine all-round footballer.

With the Premier League title, Champions League and FA Cup up for grabs, we wish Alexander-Arnold and Liverpool all the very best for the remainder of the season.
