Hughes has several top priorities for Liverpool this summer. Most notably, one of the key ones will be to sign a right-back for the Reds but high up on the agenda is also a new forward.

The right-back position is necessitated by Trent Alexander-Arnold's likely departure to Real Madrid at the end of his contract. Meanwhile, a forward is very much needed at Liverpool because of Darwin Nunez's inefficiency in front of goal.

As Anfield Watch exclusively revealed, Nunez will be on the move this summer with Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota also up for sale in what is expected to be a major reshuffle in attack.

In order to help this reshuffle, Hughes could be making a move to sign three former Manchester City academy graduates.

Hughes lines up triple €139m Man City deal

Yes, that's right. Liverpool's quest to rebuild the team could lead Richard Hughes to a jaw-dropping triple move for academy graduates from the club's arch rivals.

The first of whom could be Jeremie Frimpong who has a €40m (£33m) release clause and has been identified as one of the potential options to replace Alexander-Arnold.

Frimpong is a right-back but he's more of an attacker than a defender and that would require Slot to reshuffle the defence a little bit.

But looking at the right-back market, there are not many options other than Frimpong who have his experience and profile. Plus, the fact that he's homegrown because he came through Manchester City's academy makes him the ideal candidate and the player Hughes will likely target for all of the above factors.

Then there is the forward question and again, the ideal player could very well be a Manchester City academy graduate in Liam Delap.

The 22-year-old forward has scored 13 goal contributions already this season while playing for Ipswich, who look destined to be relegated.

If they are relegated, Delap has a release clause inserted into his contract that makes him available for £40m, roughly €47m.

Delap is a prolific goal-scorer having hit 35 goals in 36 matches for Manchester City's U21 side. He also scored on his debut for Man City's first team under Pep Guardiola.

Given that relegation release clause, he is a player who makes perfect sense for Liverpool and this is exactly the type of move we expect the Reds to make.

And finally, there is Delap's former Man City teammate at academy level, Morgan Rogers. The two of them linked up in the FA Youth Cup final of 2020, with Delap providing the assist to Morgan's goal that ultimately saw Man City win 3-2.

Recently David Ornstein has reported for The Athletic that Rogers is attracting 'big admirers.' This should and could very easily include Liverpool.

The Reds need to bring in another no.10 and Rogers is the ideal profile. He's been sublime for Aston Villa recently and he's the perfect age to make an impact.

What makes him so appealing is that with Liverpool looking to part ways with Luis Diaz, Rogers would be able to fill in at left-wing as well.

He's got a lot of experience playing in that position at Man City's academy and he's played that position for Aston Villa as well.

Football Transfers has him valued at €52m which is around £44m. That would put Liverpool's total investment into Man City academy graduates this upcoming summer at €139m or £118m.

This would be a lot of money to spend, but at the same time, Liverpool would solve a lot of the club's biggest problems. In Rogers and Delap they would be bringing in two players to rejuvenate the attack who know each other well and who have played with each other.

That chemistry also makes this triple deal a lot more enticing for Hughes.
