Newcastle United winger and reported Liverpool target Allan Saint-Maximin could be sold this summer, according to Mail Sport, as cited by LFC Transfer Room's Twitter account.

The report states that if the Magpies receive a bid of £50 million for the Frenchman in the coming months, they will consider moving him on.

Saint-Maximin is contracted until the end of the 2025-26 campaign. Therefore, Newcastle United can ultimately demand whatever they want for the 25-year-old.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Saint-Maximin is a decent player. The winger has scored 12 goals and registered 14 assists in 85 appearances for Newcastle United's first-team.

Saint-Maximin has been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.11 across the 2021-22 Premier League campaign (27 appearances).

Former Manchester United full-back Gary Neville is a huge fan of the Frenchman.

"To see his speed, his movement, it’s absolutely breathtaking," the pundit told Sky Sports back in September 2021, as quoted by The Shields Gazette.

"We were defenders in the Premier League and played against lots of good players.

"But every team now has three or four players who are unpredictable and brilliant, he’s breathtaking."

Neville added: "If this was any other club you’d think the manager is getting the best out of Saint-Maximin. He plays with freedom and expression.

“Honestly, he’s a massive threat and a nightmare for defenders. He creates chance after chance. He’s brilliant for Newcastle fans and a real positive part of the team.”

Despite Saint-Maximin's potential, we don't want to see the club spend £50 million on a player that still has plenty to prove. The winger does not score or create enough goals to justify spending the aforementioned fee.

Also, Saint-Maximin only possesses a current market value of €32 million, which further highlights that he is not worth what Newcastle United reportedly want for him.

As far as we are concerned, Liverpool would be better off saving their money.
