A report from The Times this week has revealed how Liverpool drew up a shortlist of four defenders to consider signing before the summer window in 2021, with Ibrahima Konate eventually the man that they went for.

It was well-documented that the Reds wanted to sign a new centre-half before the start of this season, particularly after the 2020/21 campaign highlighted some issues in that position - though partly in thanks to a very unlucky run of injuries.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Overall, we think the Reds got this one right with Konate and we're glad that he is the player that they have signed.

Of course, it is still early in his Liverpool career and things can go wrong as well as right, but in these opening stages on Merseyside he looks a top find.

He's a player that really commands the area he operates him and looks like a natural successor to Virgil van Dijk - let's hope that proves to be the case.
