Report: Liverpool set to go head-to-head with Manchester United for striker
Liverpool are set to go head-to-head with Manchester United for the signature of Dallas striker Ricardo Pepi, according to CBS, as cited by LFC Transfer Room's Twitter account.
The 18-year-old's contract does not expire until December 2026. With that being the case, a free transfer is off the table for the time being.CBS has claimed that Dallas want around £7.5 million for Pepi.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Pepi is a fine young player. The striker has scored 16 goals and registered four assists in 59 appearances for Dallas.
Pepi also averaged a WhoScored player rating of 6.82 in the recent MLS season. The aforementioned figures highlight that the 18-year-old possesses talent.
Also, due to Pepi's age, it would be fair to assume that he is far from the finished article. Liverpool do have an ageing forward line.
The likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are all aged between 28-30. The aforementioned players can't represent the Reds forever.
Therefore, the club would be wise to sign a young and promising forward like Pepi. Hopefully Liverpool can secure the forward's services.
