Report: Liverpool have received an offer for a defender ahead of January transfer window
The winter transfer window opens next month.
With that being the case, Liverpool have received an offer for Joe Gomez from Aston Villa, according to CalcioMercato, as cited by LFC Transfer Room's Twitter account.
The centre-back's contract expires at the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign. Gomez possesses a current market value of €30 million.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Gomez is a fine player. The Liverpool centre-back averaged a WhoScored player rating of 6.78 across the 2019-20 Premier League campaign, which backs up the aforementioned argument.
However, Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate are currently ahead of Gomez in the pecking order. The Englishman has only made nine appearances for the Reds so far this season.
Despite that being the case, we don't want to see Gomez and Liverpool part ways in any capacity (permanently or on loan) in January.
You can never possess too many good players in your squad. But, only time will tell where Gomez's future lies.
