Liverpool could be trying to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward and soon-to-be free agent Kylian Mbappe, according to journalist Alessandro Grandesso, as cited by LFC Transfer Room's Twitter account.

It has been implied that Real Madrid are the favourites to sign the Frenchman, who is out of contract in June, if he does depart PSG this summer.

However, Grandesso has stated that a club is "moving in the shadows" to secure Mbappe's signature. The journalist further added that the aforementioned team could be either Liverpool or Manchester City and not recently linked Barcelona.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Mbappe, 23, is a world-class talent. The forward has scored 160 goals and registered 81 assists in 209 appearances for PSG.

Mbappe has been in good form this season. The Frenchman has been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.74 across the 2021-22 campaign.

Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has described Mbappe as the type of player that makes you jump out of your seat.

ā€œThis is the type of player... the other day I was speaking to a friend of mine and I was like: ā€˜Thereā€™s not many people who will make me jump out of my seat or make me scream,ā€™ā€ he recently told CBS Sports, as quoted by EuroSport.

ā€œThis is what you want to see, this is why you put your TV on, because you want to see people unlocking something.

ā€œI always go on about one-v-one, all the time coach tells you: ā€˜The ball has to go there, the ball has to go there, you have to pull it back, switch itā€™. What happened to instinct? What happened to one-v-one? And this guy has plenty of it. Let him play, let us enjoy it."

The aforementioned figures and comments highlight that Mbappe would be brilliant for Liverpool. But, reports do suggest that he will be signing for Real Madrid if he does leave PSG this summer.

Only time will tell where Mbappe's long-term future lies.
