"Replace him" - Liverpool legend thinks Reds need to replace Brazilian

Liverpool legend Steve Nicol thinks the club should replace Roberto Firmino as well as selling Sadio Mane this summer.

The 60-year-old was asked a question about who he would sell in the coming months. Nicol certainly gave an honest answer.

"I think they should sell (Mane), if they can get £40 million for him, I think you take it. You’re almost getting what you paid for him and look what he’s done for you," he told ESPN, as quoted by The Express.

"As I’ve said previously, you can’t keep everyone happy when their contract is coming down, there’s just not enough money so you have to make decisions.

"The fact you’ve still got (Mohamed) Salah, (Diogo) Jota, (Luis) Diaz, you’ve still got Firmino, probably need to replace him, makes it a lot easier to say ‘okay we’ll take £40 million for Mane."

Anfield Watch Verdict

With Bayern Munich already tabling an offer for Mane (which was rejected by the Reds), it looks like they are determined to sign him this summer.

The Athletic's James Pearce earlier this week, as cited by LFC Transfer Room's Twitter account, claimed that Liverpool have set Mane's price tag at £42.5 million amid interest from Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

So, Bayern will have to improve their offer if they want to sign Mane.

However, I think both sides are playing hardball at the moment. Bayern are trying to test out Julian Ward. However, Liverpool's new sporting director is standing firm regarding Mane's value.

In terms of Firmino, there's no way he leaves Liverpool. Even though he's declined and lost his place in the starting lineup, he still has that magic that Liverpool sometimes need.

He is a great option off the bench, in my opinion.
