Reds icon names Mo Salah replacement that 'suits Liverpool down to the ground'

Liverpool legend John Barnes has named his ideal heir to Mohamed Salah's throne at Anfield - and he's Premier League proven.

Salah has been an attacking force to reckoned with ever since joining the Reds in 2017, acting as a reliable source of goals season-on-season.

Having bagged 204 goals in 332 games under Jurgen Klopp, the 31-year-old is a bona fide legend at Anfield, possessing a scoring record that will be all but impossible for any successor to replicate.

However, with the Egyptian's current contract expiring in the summer of 2025, there is speculation that the Reds may decide to cash in on their talisman this year, amid mega-money interest from the Middle East.

As such, Barnes has earmarked Wolves star Pedro Neto as a man who could go on to replace Salah on Liverpool's wing.

He told MyBettingSites: "I've always liked Pedro Neto – always liked him. If you're looking for a profile of a winger that would suit Liverpool down to the ground, that winger is Pedro Neto.

"He would suit Liverpool more than any other club. He's direct; he's quick. He's a bit like Mo Salah, where he's direct and always plays well.

"He's had his injury issues which have held him back, but you can see that he can play for any of the top clubs."

The 23-year-old has been one of Gary O'Neil's star performers this season, providing 10 goal contributions in the Premier League - including eight assists.

Wolves therefore won't be keen to lose yet another Portuguese talent to the Reds, having sold Diogo Jota to Klopp back in 2020, who has gone on to become a regular on the scoresheet at Anfield.

With Neto so integral to their cause, Wolves would reportedly only consider offers in the region of at least £60m for the player.
