"Rangers have stepped in with the big boys" - Kenny Dalglish's warning to Rangers

Former Liverpool player Kenny Dalglish has sent Rangers a warning ahead of their Champions League group stage clash against Liverpool at Anfield.

The Reds will welcome the Glasgow-based club to Merseyside tonight. Dalglish has not completely written Rangers off ahead of the match.

However, the 71-year-old has implied that the Scottish Premiership side will have to play extremely well if they are to beat Liverpool.

"Rangers have stepped in with the big boys, but that is not to say they can’t compete, that is not to say they won’t get a result against Liverpool," he told the Liverpool Echo, as quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter.

"Rangers got a rude awakening in their first game against a very good Ajax side, who played very well at Anfield.

"It is not like the old days when it was more physical. It is competitive, but it is not as physical as it used to be. So I don’t think that it being a Battle of Britain will be a leveller. It is hard to shout for Liverpool as well.

“You have still got to assess who you are playing against. Rangers haven’t done that badly. Rangers against Liverpool is a difficult game. Liverpool have had to get some players back fit with the break. It will be good to see.”

We completely agree with Dalglish's take. The reality is, Liverpool played in the Champions League final last season.

In other words, the Reds are one of the best teams in Europe. Yes, Liverpool have been poor so far this campaign.

But, form is temporary and class is permanent. Hopefully the Reds show their true colours tonight.

Even when Liverpool have been down in the dumps, they have always found a way in Europe.
