Pundit claims Liverpool midfielder does not suit Jurgen Klopp's system
Pundit Paulo Di Canio believes that Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara does not suit Jurgen Klopp's system.
The Spaniard joined the Reds from Bayern Munich for a transfer fee of €22 million back in September 2020.
Since then, Thiago has been in and out of Liverpool's first-team due to minor injuries. But, when the 30-year-old has taken to the pitch for the Reds, he has performed reasonably well.
Thiago averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.12 during his debut season (2020-21) in the Premier League.
Despite that being the case, Di Canio is under the impression that the midfielder does not suit Klopp's style of football.
"Thiago is not suitable for Klopp’s game," the 53-year-old told the Liverpool Echo, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.Anfield Watch Verdict
Thiago is a world-class footballer. There is a reason why he has played for the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Liverpool.
Therefore, it would be fair to state that Thiago is capable of playing in a number of different systems/leagues.
Pep Guardiola, one of the best managers in the world, shares our view.
As quoted by Planet Football, the 51-year-old said: “A player who plays for Barcelona and Bayern Munich can play in the Premier League. Of course he can play. He’s an exceptional player.”
Also, Klopp would not have signed the midfielder if he did not suit his style of play. Thiago has simply had an interrupted time since joining Liverpool.
We strongly believe that if the Spaniard can stay fit and have a good run at things, we will see the best of him more consistently.
It is common knowledge that most players need continuity from a selection point of view to perform to a high level on a regular basis.
