Pundit claims it wouldn't be a surprise if Liverpool signed another player this summer

Former Aston Villa and Scotland boss Alex McLeish admits it wouldn't be a surprise if Liverpool added another player to their squad this summer transfer window.

Liverpool like to do their transfer business quietly and when it 'leaks' to the press, the deal is basically already done.

With rumours that the Reds are on the lookout for a midfielder, one pundit thinks that Liverpool could still sign another player this summer.

“Nothing surprises me with Liverpool,” McLeish told Football Insider.

“They are very organised in their recruitment. With (Luis) Diaz, nobody heard anything until it was basically done and he signed the next day.

“Their conduct their business pretty well. They must feel they have the resources there, whether it is up front or in midfield, to keep going.

“(Sadio) Mane has gone, it’s the end of an era. We will see if anything happens but what they are good at is when you think nothing is happening at Anfield, something happens.

“We don’t know about it. That seems to be the policy. If they start the season without another signing then I think you then have to see what happens in January.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

If we were to bring anyone in, then it's likely to be a midfielder. A report does suggest that to be the case anyway.

A lot of fans have their hearts set on Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham, but it has been made clear that the Reds will wait until next summer to make an approach for him.

Saying that, Liverpool are always keeping track of their main targets and if an opportunity comes up to sign them, then they will pounce on it, similarly to Diaz.

In my opinion, I still think Liverpool have something in the woodwork this summer. Whether they'll act on it is another story though.
