Pundit can understand why Liverpool won't let Sadio Mane leave on the cheap

Trevor Sinclair has given his opinion on the situation involving Liverpool winger Sadio Mane.

It has been reported that Bayern Munich submitted a second bid worth £30 million for the Senegal international earlier this week. However, the Reds declined the offer.

Liverpool will not sell Mane for a fee below £40 million. The 30-year-old has one season left on his contract.

Sinclair said that he can see why the Reds are not allowing Mane to leave on the cheap.

“No player, from my memory, leaves Liverpool on their terms,” he told talkSPORT. “Liverpool let players go for a lot of money or they keep them. It shows the power of the club.

“I think Mane is the most useful attacking player. The way he goes about things. He doesn’t score the most goals. But he causes absolute mayhem.

“He’s 30 years old. Now, if we are talking about Harry (Kane) at 29 being worth £100 million. Then £40 million for Sadio Mane is a snip. He’s a great player. He gives everything in every game. He turns up in big games.

“I am not surprised Bayern are trying to get him cheap. But Liverpool won’t have it. He is Liverpool’s important player, offensively."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Mane is coming off a solid season for Liverpool. The forward scored 23 goals and registered five assists in 51 appearances for the Reds.

Mane also averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.21 across the 2021-22 campaign.

The aforementioned figures highlight that the 30-year-old is far from done at the top level.

Therefore, Liverpool have every right to hold out for a reasonable transfer fee. But, only time will tell if a deal is to be agreed.

Whatever happens, we wish Mane all the best ahead of next season. Once a Red, always a Red.
