PSG understand Kylian Mbappe has now made the final decision on his future

Paris Saint-Germain believe Kylian Mbappe has made a final decision on his future. The Frenchman has been linked with Liverpool.

This comes from Le Parisien. They report that there's now 'pessimism' at Paris Saint-Germain around Kylian Mbappe because they're certain he's made a decision to join Real Madrid this summer.

Mbappe is free to join whoever he wants in 2024 with the expiry of his PSG contract. That's led to all sorts of rumours for years over who he wants to join, with three clubs standing above the rest.

There's always the option of renewing with PSG, of course. Real Madrid have always been the favourites to land him, though, while Liverpool were the dark horse in the race.

But it was always incredibly unlikely that he'd pick Liverpool. The wages involved here are astronomical for the Reds, while there's literally zero precedent for such a player moving to Anfield.

It's also quite telling that Le Parisien's article makes no mention of the Reds at all. That fuels reports such as from Guillem Balague who claimed Mbappe was really just using Liverpool to boost his negotiating power.

And there's probably a lot to that. The Reds would have been foolish not to get involved here - Mbappe is arguably the best player in the world - but their chances were always very slim.

It's also worth mentioning that the number of left-sided forwards in the squad would have necessitated someone leaving. Just a difficult operation all-around from the Reds' point of view.

Jurgen Klopp's exit likely pushed Liverpool's chances to zero, in fact, so really, no one should be surprised by this.

The side is ceratinly good enough - and young enough - to continue challenging for honours for years to come, though. Mbappe would have been a sensational addition but this is a squad that hardly needed another incredible forward.

Just happy to put all the talk behind us, really.
