Kylian Mbappe rejected the chance to move to Liverpool last summer after a PSG consultant 'opened the door' for the 24-year-old to leave.

According to the Athletic, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, a whopping £352 million price tag was placed on the French international last summer. Additionally, he was told he could only move to Liverpool as PSG did not want to entertain offers from Spanish giants Real Madrid. Despite his club's willingness to do a deal with the Reds, the 24-year-old passed up on the opportunity as he eventually signed a three-year contract extension.

Mbappe started the 2022-23 season in stunning fashion and combined to devastating effect with PSG attackers Lionel Messi and Neymar. He has racked up 20 goals and five assists across all competitions for the Ligue 1 side this season, while he also scored eight goals for France and won the Golden Boot at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

He came up short against Argentina in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final as Argentina won on penalties, but the world took notice of the Frenchman's outrageous skill as he became only the second football in history to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final after Geoff Hurst in 1966.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Liverpool's interest in Kylian Mbappe is well documented, with the Frenchman confirming to the Daily Telegraph last summer that he was approached by Jurgen Klopp and co back in 2017 while he was at Monaco.

“We talked a little bit, but not too much. We talked a little bit. I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favorite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why - you will have to ask her! It’s a good club, and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.”

Klopp is clearly a big fan of the player, but it's no secret that Mbappe's dream is to play for Real Madrid at some point in the future. Liverpool have other gaping holes to fill in their squad, which they'll look to address this summer, so I can't see them making a move for the Frenchman.
