Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has admitted Kylian Mbappe's future is out of his hands, with the superstar forward now free to discuss terms with other clubs.

Following the turn of the new year, Mbappe now has just six months left on his current contract and is able to enter discussions with foreign clubs over a summer move.

Despite a high-profile falling out between club and player this summer, which saw Mbappe sent to train with a group of players termed 'the undesirables', PSG are reportedly still hopeful of convincing the 25-year-old to sign an extension in the French capital.

However, asked the question in a press conference ahead of the French Super Cup between PSG and Toulouse, Luis Enrique conceded the Mbappe situation is not in his control.

He told reporters: "I will manage it as I have always done. It is not something that depends on me. I am not the person who should answer that question."

Mbappe had long-been expected to move to Real Madrid at the end of his PSG deal, with Florentino Perez an open admirer of the 2018 World Cup winner.

However, there have been suggestions that the Spanish giants might be cooling their interest, amid concerns over the massive financial outlay it would take to sign Mbappe – even on a 'free' transfer.

One report claimed Madrid have set Mbappe a 'deadline' of 15 January to make a decision on a take-it-or-leave-it contract offer, before turning to other targets.

Meanwhile, Le Parisien say that Liverpool are, in fact, the 'most credible and dangerous candidate' to land Mbappe, if he decides not to prolong his stay in France.

Liverpool have regularly been linked with Mbappe over the years, with Jurgen Klopp a known admirer of the former Monaco forward.

In addition, the player himself has made positive comments in public about the Reds, while there was the revelation that his mother is even a Liverpool fan.

"I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool," Mbappe once said.

"I don’t know why, you will have to ask her! It’s a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club."

Anfield Watch understands that the Reds would only consider a move for Mbappe in the event that Mohamed Salah leaves.

Salah is Liverpool's highest-earning player of all time on a contract worth around £350k per week in basic pre-tax pay. Meanwhile, Mbappe is reported to be on a deal at PSG with a wage in excess of £1m a week.
