"Problems in all parts of the pitch" - Pundit on three Reds who struggled against Arsenal

Arsenal defeated Liverpool 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.

The Reds looked very vulnerable throughout the Premier League fixture.

However, Phil McNulty from the BBC only criticised three Liverpool players post-game.

“Liverpool are a shadow the team that chased four trophies last season and they have problems in all parts of the pitch,” the chief football writer wrote for BBC Sport.

“Trent Alexander-Arnold was given a nightmare by Gabriel Martinelli before he went off injured at half-time, while Virgil van Dijk’s poor form continued.

“There was also the rare sight of Mohamed Salah being substituted – but he was so poor, so anonymous, that he could not have uttered a word of complaint to manager Jurgen Klopp.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We believe that it is harsh to criticise three players when the whole team underperformed against Arsenal.

On a positive note, we do believe that Joe Gomez was good during the second half. The defender replaced Alexander-Arnold at half-time.

Gomez played at right-back and looked stable. The England international registered a WhoScored player rating of 6.63 for his 45-minute performance.

With Alexander-Arnold picking up an injury against Arsenal, Gomez will have a chance to cement his place in Jurgen Klopp's team again.

The 25-year-old has struggled to stay fit in recent years. So, it was good to see Gomez play reasonably well against Arsenal.

We wish him all the best for the remainder of the campaign and beyond.
