Premier League club reportedly made an approach for Reds forward
Newcastle United recently made an approach for Liverpool forward Divock Origi, according to Calciomercato, as cited by LFC Transfer Room on Twitter.
The Belgium international, who is nothing more than a squad player at Anfield, is set to depart the club as a free agent at the conclusion of the season.
However, Origi has reportedly rejected Newcastle's approach as he has agreed to join AC Milan.
Anfield Watch Verdict
Liverpool signed Origi from Lille for a transfer fee of £11.37 million back in the summer of 2014. The striker has proven to be a handy player at times.
Origi has found the back of the net 41 times and registered 18 assists in 174 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.
The 27-year-old has also won five major trophies with the Reds.
But, the reality is, the 27-year-old is not playing regular senior football for Liverpool. Despite the fact that Origi has been fit this season, he has only been on the pitch for a total of 572 minutes.
He is behind the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz in the pecking order.
As Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has implied in the past, Origi is too good to be a squad player.
As quoted by the Daily Mail, the German said the following: "He is a legend on and off the pitch. He is fantastic footballer for me, he is a world-class striker, our best finisher, he always was and everyone would say the same. He does it in training and then not in squad and that is really hard, a really hard decision to make."
So, we don't blame Origi for wanting to try a new challenge. You only get one career at the end of the day.
