Aston Villa are interested in Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez, according to Football Insider, as cited by The Anfield Buzz's Twitter account.

The report states that the Villans are planning on making an approach for the Englishman before the end of January.

The report further adds that Liverpool are planning on offloading a defender sometime this month.

The Reds are stacked with options in central defence (Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate, Nat Phillips and Gomez).

Anfield Watch Verdict

Gomez is a solid player. During the 2019-20 Premier League campaign, the centre-back averaged a WhoScored player rating of 6.78 across 28 matches.

The aforementioned figures highlight that Gomez is capable of playing in England's top division of football.

With that being the case, we don't want to see the club offload the Englishman (loan or sell). Yes, Gomez has had his injury problems in recent times. Therefore, the defender has not been a regular in Jurgen Klopp's side this season.

But, we are confident that Gomez can get his body right due to his age.
