Predicted Liverpool starting lineup vs Luton Town

Here's our predicted Liverpool lineup vs Luton Town in the Premier League on Sunday. The Reds will expect nothing but a win against the newly-promoted side.

The confidence is flowing at Liverpool right now. The Reds have only lost once all season, after all - and even that really shouldn't have happened.

Wednesday saw Liverpool survive the weather and go through to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals after a 2-1 win over Bournemouth. Their UEFA Europa League campaign is off to a flying start, too.

But now it's back to the Premier League and a trip to newly-promoted Luton Town. This will be the first time these two have met in league football since 1992 and the first time they've met in any competition since a couple of FA Cup games in early 2008.

Of course, the Reds expect a win here. They'll want to show that confidence off with a routine win, in all honesty, to keep the pressure on at the top of the table.

And so we can't imagine Jurgen Klopp takes this particularly lightly. With all that in mind, here's how Liverpool could line up against Luton.

Defence seems set

We don't see any real surprises coming at the back and the win against Bournemouth pretty much confirmed who Liverpool will start at Luton.

Joe Gomez, Jarell Quansah and Joel Matip all played the full 90 minutes in that one. As a result, it's hard to see any stepping into this ahead of Virgil van Dijk or Ibrahima Konaté.

Similarly, Gomez's minutes essentially confirm that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be in at right-back. Kostas Tsimikas is an interesting one, though - he did play every minute vs Bournemouth. He's also the only fit senior left-back and we can't see Klopp leaving him out.

Is there a risk of burnout? Absolutely. But the expectation is that Tsimikas plays limited football over the second half of the campaign once Andy Robertson returns. Shouldn't be a problem to run him hard here, then.

We're also expecting Alisson Becker in goal. You likely guessed that one, though.

Midfield is anyone's guess

While the Bournemouth game hinted at who could start in defence, it did the opposite in midfield.

Wataru Endo, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott started that one but also went off early.

Jones, in particular, was definitely fit enough to play the full 90 on the south coast. He's been suspended in the Premier League, after all, and has had limited minutes. The fact Klopp took him off half an hour from the end suggests he wanted him relatively fresh to face Luton.

But Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister were both subs in that one. Surely that puts them in line to start against Luton? Dominik Szoboszlai surely isn't left out, though.

We're going for Mac Allister, Jones and Szoboszlai but it could really be three of any we've mentioned. Liverpool are unpredictable in midfield right now – and perhaps that's a sign of a deep squad.

Nunez comes back in

Darwin Nunez came off the bench against Bournemouth to win the game – and it's not the only time he's done that this season.

The Uruguayan came off against Nottingham Forest, then didn't start in midweek, leaving him in line to start against Luton. We'd be very surprised if Klopp left him out, in fact.

Mohamed Salah should play every Premier League game and we expect him to here. We'd also imagine Diogo Jota come in on the left flank after starting from the bench against Bournemouth. Cody Gakpo played 81 minutes on Wednesday, setting him up for a rest here.

We imagine Luis Diaz will miss a third consecutive game after everything that has happened.

Predicted starting XI to face Luton Town

(4-3-3): Allison; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Jones; Salah, Nunez, Jota
