The Athletic's James Pearce has provided a fitness update on Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino.

The Brazil international has been out of action since mid-April due to a foot injury.

However, Pearce believes that there is a possibility Firmino could be fit for the club's Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield this Saturday.

"Possibly back for the weekend," the journalist told The Athletic when asked about the forward's return date, as cited by Anfield Watch on Twitter.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Firmino has been solid for Liverpool this season. The striker has scored 11 goals and registered four assists in 31 appearances for the club's first-team.

Firmino has also been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 6.92 across the 2021-22 campaign.

Therefore, it will be a good moment when the Brazil international returns to full fitness. Firmino simply gives Liverpool more strength in depth.

Going by previous comments from Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, it would be fair to assume that he can't wait to welcome the 30-year-old back into the fold.

“Mo (Salah) gets a lot of attention and rightly so,” he said back in October 2021, as quoted by the Liverpool Offside.

“But Bobby, for people with football knowledge, I’m pretty sure when he finishes playing people will write books about the way he interpreted the false-nine position.

“I don’t say he invented it or we invented it, but with the way he plays from time to time it looks like it. There are different things to do on the pitch, so yeah, Bobby knows how much we appreciate what he is doing.”

Only time will tell if Firmino will be fit for this weekend's clash against Tottenham Hotspur. The fixture will kick-off at 7:45pm BST.
