Portuguese expert calls Darwin Nunez the best player in the league
Portuguese football expert Pedro Sepulveda has said that Darwin Nunez is the best player in the Primeira Liga.
Speaking to Football Daily, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Sepulveda said that after Luis Diaz left the Primeira Liga in January, Nunez became the best player in the league.
"Darwin Nunez was one of the best players by far this season in the Portuguese league. The first one in my opinion was Luis Diaz who moved to Liverpool in January,” he said.
“After that, Darwin Nunez was completely the best player. If you look at his numbers, he’s the best striker in the Portuguese league last season in a team that finished the season in third place. We are talking about a big, big striker.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
It looks like everything is all but done regarding Nunez to Liverpool.
According to Record Portugal, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Liverpool and Benfica have agreed a transfer fee for the striker.
The Reds will pay €80 million plus an additional €20 million of achievable add-ons. Nunez will sign a five-year deal at Anfield.
We wouldn't be surprised if the Uruguayan is a Red by the end of the week.
If the aforementioned report is true, then Nunez will become the club's most expensive transfer in their history.
Some people might question the deal due to the price, but if Jurgen Klopp is willing to sanction it, then the forward must be something special.
Nunez also seems very excited at the prospect of playing at Anfield. He has reportedly spoken to some Liverpool players about what it is like to play in front of the Scousers.
