Liverpool forward Diogo Jota suffered an injury whilst representing Portugal last Sunday.

It has been confirmed that the 25-year-old picked up a thigh injury during Portugal's 1-0 loss to Switzerland.

However, we don't know how serious the issue is.

As cited by Empire of the Kop, the Portuguese national team said the following about Jota's condition: "The Portuguese Football Federation confirms Diogo Jota presented with “muscle complaints” following the 1-0 Nations League defeat to Switzerland on Sunday.

“Liverpool have been informed after an exam in Geneva revealed a thigh injury."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Hopefully Jota makes a quick recovery and is ready for Liverpool's pre-season. The forward has been an exceptional player for the Reds.

Jota joined the club from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a transfer fee of £40.23 million back in the summer of 2020.

Since then, he has scored 34 goals and registered nine assists in 85 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.

To be fair, we should not be surprised with Jota's rise. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp made it clear that the Portugal international would fit right in at Anfield.

The German told the club's official website the following when Jota signed with Liverpool: "He’s a player who gives us so many options to use him. He’s 23 years old, still far away from being kind of a finished article, so much potential.

"He has the speed, he can combine, can defend, can press. It makes it just more unpredictable and gives us real options for different systems because he can play pretty much all three positions up front in a 4-3-3, if we play with four midfielders he can play both wings. So, these kinds of things (make him valuable)."

Jota is contracted until the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign. Therefore, we look forward to watching the forward strut his stuff at Anfield for at least a few more years.
