Peter Crouch gives his view on Liverpool's performance against Benfica

Former Reds forward Peter Crouch has given his opinion on Liverpool's performance against Benfica.

Last night, the Reds won the first leg of the aforementioned Champions League quarter-final tie 3-1 at the Estadio da Luz.

However, Crouch believes that Liverpool have plenty to work on ahead of the second leg, which will take place at Anfield on the 13th of April.

As quoted by TeamTalk, Crouch told BT Sport the following after the match: “They’ve got a great result there, I don’t think Jurgen Klopp will be over the moon with the performance.

“I thought second-half, Benfica – although they put them under pressure – I thought Liverpool were sloppy at times. He’ll pull those players up, probably privately.

“He might come out and not be fuming, but I think in the dressing room afterwards I think he’ll be slightly concerned about some of the sloppy passing that went on.

“But they got the job done, they were clinical and Luis Diaz has given them a huge boost (goal in the dying moments of the match) going into the second leg.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We can 100 percent see where Crouch is coming from. Liverpool were far from perfect against Benfica, especially during the second-half.

Jurgen Klopp's side gave the ball away in dangerous areas on the odd occasion.

But, the most important thing to take from the match is that Liverpool possess an aggregate lead heading into the second leg.

The Reds can almost smell the semi-finals. It would be brilliant to see Liverpool win the Champions League this season. It is the biggest trophy in club football after all.

Liverpool have won the European Cup on six occasions. Hopefully the aforementioned figure goes up by one come the end of the season.
