Pep Guardiola offers bizarre response to Trent Alexander Arnold's comments

Pep Guardiola has offered a slightly strange response to Trent Alexander-Arnold's recent comments about Manchester City ahead of Sunday's clash with Liverpool.

Trent Alexander-Arnold got under the skin of several Man City players and plenty of the club's supporters after claiming that Liverpool's trophies mean more to them than the Cityzens' trophies do to their fans considering the financial backing that the champions have.

"Looking back on this era, although they’ve won more titles than us and have probably been more successful, our trophies will mean more to us and our fanbase because of the situations at both clubs, financially," Alexander-Arnold told FourFourTwo.

"How both clubs have built their teams and the manner in which we’ve done it probably means more to our fans."

Man City's Erling Haaland and Ruben Dias both responded to the No.66's comments by aiming small digs at the Reds, but Guardiola's response was a little more bizarre.

When asked about Alexander-Arnold's comments in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Liverpool game, the Spaniard simply replied: "I wish him [Alexander-Arnold] a speedy recovery and he comes back to the pitch as soon as possible."

When pushed further on the issue, Guardiola responded with a slight smirk: "Speedy recovery and he comes back as soon as possible."

Guardiola may have simply been taking a step back from the situation and refusing to get drawn into any drama, but it was a peculiar response to the questions asked of him.

Jurgen Klopp went into great detail about Alexander-Arnold's words during his pre-match press conference, suggesting that there was "nothing wrong with what Trent said."

Alexander-Arnold will miss out on Sunday's clash with Man City having scored in the reverse fixture, with either Conor Bradley or Joe Gomez taking his place this weekend.

Man City do have a few concerns at left wing, with Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku both injury doubts for the trip to Anfield, meaning it's unclear which forward Liverpool's right-back will be up against.

Liverpool are a point in front of Man City with 11 games to play and the Reds will be desperate to claim victory this weekend in a gargantuan battle at the summit of the Premier League table.
