Paul Joyce's opinion on Liverpool's chances of signing Jude Bellingham
Journalist Paul Joyce has given his opinion on Liverpool's chances of signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.
The 18-year-old has been linked with a move to Anfield in recent times. However, Joyce is under the impression that Liverpool will struggle to sign Bellingham this summer because of his price.
The journalist said that the Englishman could cost somewhere around £100 million.
"Jude Bellingham is complicated because of the price and the fact they could lose (Erling) Haaland this summer - the last figure I saw quoted was £100 million - I think that complicates interest in him," Joyce told the KENN7OFFICIAL podcast, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.Anfield Watch Verdict
Bellingham is one hell of a player. The midfielder has scored six goals and registered 13 assists in 37 appearances for Borussia Dortmund's first-team this season.
The aforementioned figures highlight that Bellingham is well beyond his years as a footballer.
But, we would be shocked if Fenway Sports Group, the club's owners, were to spend £100 million on one player.
During FSG's time at Liverpool, they have never spent more than £75 million on a player (Virgil van Dijk, January 2018).
That particular purchase probably would not have occurred had the club not sold Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for a transfer fee of £142 million a few days earlier.
Therefore, unless the Reds/FSG sell a big name this summer, we don't see the club signing Bellingham.
But, who knows, we could be wrong. Bellingham would be a superb signing for Liverpool.
The midfielder is talented and young. Bellingham could play for the Reds for well over a decade.
Also, due to the Englishman's age, it would be fair to assume that he still has plenty of room left for improvement.
Hopefully Liverpool consider signing Bellingham. But, only time will tell where his long-term future lies.
