"Our signings have to be right" - Pep Lijnders on acquiring the right players
Liverpool assistant boss Pep Lijnders has explained why signing the correct players is so important for the club.
In recent years, the Reds have nailed their recruitment. There is a reason why Liverpool have won the Champions League, Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League title, League Cup, FA Cup and Community Shield since 2019.
But, as Lijnders has implied, without the right players at the club, winning the aforementioned trophies would not have been possible.
“Our signings have to be right. We don’t have either the capacity or the will to get them wrong, we want to be right. If you want to improve your game in a certain way then you need to be sure about the type of signing you are going for," he told The Athletic, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.
“Our club understands well the process of adding players in the style of what we want and what we need.
“Of course when I get enthusiastic about someone or Vitor (Matos) or Jurgen (Klopp) or Julian (Ward), any one of us, then we all think twice because it means something.
“We don’t have that with a lot of players because a player has to fit into our style and our character as a team, but when we do have that we have this will to bring them in.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
Liverpool have signed Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
Because of the people who are in charge of the club, we are confident that the aforementioned players will be good footballers for the Reds.
There is no denying that Nunez, Carvalho and Ramsay add strength and depth to Liverpool's squad.
Hopefully the Reds can continue to make good decisions in regards to transfers heading into the future.
Without solid recruitment, you can't win trophies. Only time will tell if Liverpool are to win some more silverware this season.
