Opta supercomputer predicts Liverpool's title chances after goalless Man Utd draw

Opta's fabled supercomputer has predicted where Liverpool will finish this season following the Reds' 0-0 draw with Manchester United on Sunday.

In a game low on quality, Jurgen Klopp's side dominated proceedings from start to finish, but were unable to create too many clear-cut openings in the final third and grab that all-important winner.

It was a subpar performance from many of the Reds' attacking players and a result that saw Liverpool drop to second in the Premier League table.

Klopp's men fell below Arsenal in the league, the Gunners beating Brighton 2-0 on Sunday. With Manchester City having surrendered a two-goal lead to Crystal Palace in a draw at the Etihad on Saturday, it proved to be a wasted opportunity for the Reds.

The result has impacted the title predictions of Opta's supercomputer too. Liverpool had been second favourites for the Premier League after their dramatic 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on 9 December, only behind current champions Manchester City.

However, according to Opta's updated predictions, the Reds are now third favourites for the title, sitting behind Man City and current table-toppers Arsenal in the rankings.

Liverpool supposedly have a 23.6% chance of lifting the title this season, while the Gunners now have a 29.9% chance and Pep Guardiola's men still have a 39.9% chance despite dropping points at the weekend as well.

Meanwhile, the only other teams who have a shot at the Premier League are Aston Villa (6.8%) and Tottenham (0.4%).

Before this weekend, Liverpool had been predicted to finish second in the table by Opta, but they are now predicted to end the campaign in third. The Reds have a 26.6% chance of coming second, while they have a 26.8% chance of finishing third.

Liverpool's chances of winning the title have dropped by 7.9% since last weekend, which seems a little harsh after just one result.

With a clash against Arsenal up next in the Premier League, it's crucial that the Reds get back to winning ways.
