The League Cup could kick-start a superb 2022 for Liverpool

Diogo Jota's brace against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium back in January has been one of the better moments for the club so far this season, as it secured Liverpool's place in the League Cup final.

Yes, winning the League Cup is certainly not as prestigious as claiming the Premier League title or the Champions League.

But, silverware is silverware. The prospect of gaining a trophy should excite any Red.

Liverpool will face Chelsea in the League Cup final at Wembley Stadium this Sunday.

We strongly believe that if the Reds can secure a victory, it could just spur them on to bigger and better things.

The reality is, getting a taste of silverware in February can only give a team the confidence to go on and claim another trophy in the near future.

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez labelled the League Cup final as a "great opportunity".

"We are hungry, it’s a trophy [League Cup] and that’s what we want to do. We want to keep adding history to the club and it’s a great opportunity to do so on the weekend," the Englishman told the club's official website, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.

Liverpool are in a very good position to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The Reds hold a 2-0 lead heading into the second leg, which will take place at Anfield, of their last-16 tie against Inter Milan.

Jurgen's Klopp side could also win the 2021-22 Premier League title. It seemed unlikely a week ago, but, with Manchester City going down 3-2 to Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium last weekend, things have opened up.

Liverpool are only six points behind the Citizens/League leaders with a game in hand. The Reds will face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on the 9th of April.

Therefore, we would love to see Klopp's side add to the club's history this weekend and launch into the backend of the season with nothing but confidence.

In saying that, Liverpool will have to be at their best to defeat Chelsea on Sunday. The Reds are coming up against the reigning champions of Europe.

The Blues possess some top players such as Romelu Lukaku, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, N'Golo Kante and Thiago Silva.

But, we are confident that if Liverpool play close to their best, they will find a way to defeat Chelsea.

Despite everything that the Blues have going for them, the Reds are also a top side.

Liverpool have won the Champions League and Premier League title within the past three years. If anything, the Reds have only strengthened in the past year with the arrivals of Thiago Alcantara, Luis Diaz and Jota. Klopp certainly agrees with the aforementioned statement.

As quoted by The Guardian, the 54-year-old said the following back at the beginning of February: “This is the strongest squad [Liverpool have had under Klopp], there is no doubt about that. If that wasn’t the case then that means that we have got weaker over the years.

“We’ve always had a strong squad. That we didn’t make it so far in four competitions in the years before is for a bunch of different reasons. Timing is important in football, as in life, and when you come through a brilliant December on three wheels, for example, then it gets a bit bumpy in January when the cup competitions start properly.”

Only time will tell if Liverpool are to win a trophy or two this season. Nothing is ever guaranteed in football.
