The key talking points from Liverpool's clash against Burnley

Burnley welcomed Liverpool to Turf Moor yesterday.

The Reds went on to defeat the Clarets 1-0 thanks to Fabinho's strike from close range.

We will take a look at the key talking points from the Premier League fixture.

Fabinho has been one of Liverpool's best players this season

Fabinho is a defensive midfielder by trade, but there is no denying that he has offered plenty going forward this season.

The 28-year-old has scored six goals and registered one assist in 27 appearances. Fabinho has also been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.06.

The aforementioned figures highlight that the Brazil international has been spectacular this season. It was also great to see Fabinho stand up when it mattered most against Burnley.

The Clarets defended well for the majority of the match, so it was always going to take a moment from someone to split the two sides.

“He scores a counter-pressing goal in the six-yard box,” Klopp told The Guardian.

"He probably would have scored much more goals for Liverpool if I had put him in the box in offensive set pieces. Only recently we did and he scores.”

Jordan Henderson was off the pace, but Thiago looked good

Henderson was certainly not at his best against Burnley. The midfielder only completed 50 percent of his 36 passes at Turf Moor.

Henderson was replaced by Thiago Alcantara 59 minutes into the match. Despite that being the case, we aren't too concerned about the Englishman's performance.

Henderson has always come back bigger and stronger from adversity, so we expect him to do the same this time round.

As Klopp has pointed out in the past, the midfielder is essential to how Liverpool play.

“Hendo is essential to all the things we achieved in the last few years,” the German said back in November 2021, as quoted by This Is Anfield.

“He has no point to prove, if anybody thinks he didn’t play a good season last season or whatever."

Klopp added: “We need players like him, and especially him, in the club in the long term because these boys, the quality of them, the mindset of them, the attitude of them, they set standards for all the rest.

“That’s why it’s so important that we have these players in the squad and on the pitch, obviously.

“And Hendo is not old or whatever and he can still develop and he has to and he will, and I will not stop helping him with that. That’s the situation."

In terms of Thiago, he simply added composure to Liverpool's midfield when he came on against Burnley. The Spaniard is coming off a hip injury, so it was good to see him get on the ball and control the tempo of the football match.

That is ultimately what Thiago does best.

The Africa Cup of Nations players all took to the field

It was the first time we saw Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita all take to the pitch for Liverpool in well over a month due to the Africa Cup of Nations, which took place between January-February.

None of the aforementioned players had a real impact (no registered goals or assists) against Burnley. But, the conditions certainly weren't made for the skillful and elegant footballers.

The rain was coming down heavily at Turf Moor. With that being the case, Salah, Mane and Keita will certainly have better days before the season concludes.

Liverpool's high line worked a treat

Liverpool have held a high line under Klopp for quite some time. Against Burnley, the tactic worked superbly.

The Reds caught the Clarets offside seven times, which backs up the aforementioned argument.
