The FA Cup may not be the priority - but it would cap Klopp's tenure at Liverpool

Liverpool have had a very good run in the FA Cup this season.

The Reds have defeated Shrewsbury Town, Cardiff City, Norwich City and Nottingham Forest (in order).

With that being the case, Jurgen Klopp's side will face Manchester City in the semi-finals. The clash will take place at Wembley Stadium on the 16th of April.

Liverpool have not won the FA Cup since 2006. The Reds defeated West Ham United on penalties at the Millennium Stadium on that particular day.

Therefore, Liverpool could potentially end a 16-year drought this season. Kenny Dalglish's Liverpool side got close to winning the FA Cup in 2012.

But, they were defeated by Chelsea 2-1 at Wembley Stadium.

However, we are aware that the Premier League and Champions League take priority. They are the two biggest trophies an English football club can win.

Liverpool are in the mix for both this season. The Reds are one-point behind league leaders Manchester City and they will face Benfica in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

But, we are confident that Klopp's squad can still find a way to claim the FA Cup this year.

Without squad depth, it is difficult to compete for multiple trophies in a season. Klopp has expained why that is the case in the past.

As quoted by The Liverpool Offside, the 54-year-old said the following back at the beginning of March: “The boys have now really proper quality in depth, but we cannot play all competitions and go far in the competitions if we don’t have this depth, there is no chance.”

He added: “You can do it for a year when you are lucky with injuries."

The reality is, Klopp does not lack options across the pitch. He possesses two solid goalkeepers in Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson, Kostas Tsimikas and James Milner are the club's full-backs.

Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate are Klopp's central defenders.

Liverpool probably have more depth in midfield than any other position out on the pitch (Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Harvey Elliott).

Klopp's attack is the most exciting aspect about his team. He has the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino at his disposal.

Therefore, even when Klopp is prioritising matches, he still ends up fielding a strong XI in a match that he does not deem as important.

With big Premier League and Champions League fixtures on the horizon, it will be interesting to see which players the 54-year-old picks for the FA Cup semi-final clash against Manchester City.

As we would like to see the 16-year drought broken, hopefully Klopp picks a side that is close to his best.

The German has never won the trophy. So, it would be fair to assume that he wouldn't mind adding the aforementioned prize to his collection.

After defeating Nottingham Forest at the City Ground to progress to the semi-finals earlier this month, Klopp did hint that he would be picking a strong team against the Citizens.

"I don't think we are the dream draw for anyone, but it will be a tough tie, and we have to make sure it will be tough for City as well," he said, as quoted by Geo Super.

Only time will tell if Liverpool are to claim the FA Cup this season.

The next couple of months are massive for the club. The reality is, Liverpool could win the quadruple this season.

The Reds have already won the League Cup, so anything is possible.
