Opinion: Liverpool have never been in a better position to claim the title
It is an exciting time to be a Liverpool supporter.
The Reds claimed the League Cup less than a month ago. But, the season is far from over.
Liverpool are in contention to win the Premier League title, UEFA Champions League and FA Cup.
But, if we could only see the Reds win one of the aforementioned trophies, we would pick the English Premiership.
Manchester United have won more first division titles (20) than any other side in England. Liverpool on the other hand have won 19.
That is why we are desperate to see the Reds lift the Premier League title this season. There would be no greater feeling than taking a step towards knocking the Red Devils off their perch.
As things stand, Liverpool are one point behind league leaders Manchester City. Both sides have played 29 top-flight games.
The Reds also possess a better goal difference than the Citizens (55 to 50).
So, Manchester City have the advantage in the title race. But, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that his side will give Pep Guardiola's team a "proper fight" from now until the end of the season.
“We play City in three or four weeks (at the Etihad) and then we will give them a proper fight,” said the German, as quoted by The Guardian.
“I don’t think a lot about City, that’s the truth. I know the only chance we have is to win an incredible amount of games because our opponents do. In (the) last few years we’ve pushed each other on insane levels.
“It makes each game a final. You can enjoy that for sure but it’s intense, then comes in the physical part and you are tired.”
Liverpool forward Diogo Jota shares a similar opinion to Klopp regarding the Premier Leaue title race.
"Nine games, nine finals, I believe we can do it (win the title)," the Portugal international told the club's official website.
Jota added: "It’s very exciting, we are on all fronts. I think we can win those titles. We are together as a unit, as a group, we have pretty much everyone available so we can fight for it."
The English Premiership is very much in the Reds' hands. Klopp's Liverpool won the trophy back in 2020. However, we strongly believe that the Reds have never been better placed to win the Premier League title.
Prior to 2020, the club had not won a league title for 30 years. But, Klopp's side no longer has that burden hanging over them. With that being the case, they can just play without all the external noise that has existed in the past.
Alongside the fact that this Liverpool team have won the title before, the 30-year drought no longer being relevant gives the players a bit of a psychological advantage.
Klopp has also improved his team since 2020.
The 54-year-old has recently added Thiago Alcantara, Luis Diaz and Jota to his squad. You could argue that the aforementioned players are all world-class.
Liverpool don't really have any injuries at the moment. All of Klopp's best players are fit (except Trent Alexander-Arnold). It really does feel like the stars are aligning.
But, we are aware that things than change very quickly. It only takes one bad performance or an injury to a key player to put Manchester City in pole position to claim the title.
As Klopp said, every game is like a grand final. Every minute of every match matters.
Therefore, the final stage of the season is going to stressful. But, there is nothing more exciting than seeing your side compete for trophies.
We are looking forward to the next couple of months.
