Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham would be the perfect signing for Liverpool

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham for quite some time.

With that being the case, we thought that we would take a look at why the Englishman would be the perfect signing for the Reds.

Talented

Bellingham is beyond his years. The 18-year-old has scored eight goals and registered 14 assists in 74 appearances for Borussia Dortmund's first-team.

Bellingham has also been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.28 across the 2021-22 Bundesliga campaign.

The midfielder's potential has been described as "scary" by former Manchester United footballer Roy Keane.

As quoted by the Mirror, the Irishman told ITV the following back in November 2021: “He’s got a great chance, the kid, we love everything about him.

“What he does on the pitch, the way he speaks off it, he’s playing week in, week out for a top club [Borussia Dortmund]. The potential in this kid is scary.”

Keane added: “I saw him recently playing in a Champions League game and he was producing passes… I didn’t think he had that in his locker quite yet.

“The potential for this boy, he’s a good size, he’s like a boxer, he’s a strong powerful boy. Gareth Southgate [England boss] must be rubbing his hands.”

The aforementioned figures and complements highlight that Bellingham would add quality and depth to Liverpool's midfield.

Age

Bellingham won't come cheap. The Englishman's contract does not expire until the summer of 2025, which means that Borussia Dortmund can demand a huge transfer fee for him.

Bellingham possesses a current market value of €75 million.

But, as we have already pointed out, the midfielder is only 18 years of age. Therefore, Bellingham would be worth every penny.

The reality is, he could play in Liverpool's midfield for well over a decade. Also, Bellingham is far from the finished article simply because he is so young.

But, we do have concerns regarding whether the club would be willing to pay a hefty transfer fee for one player.

Under Fenway Sports Group (2010-now), the Reds have signed players for reasonable transfer fees.

Yes, FSG did fork out £75 million on centre-back Virgil van Dijk back in January 2018. However, the club did sell midfielder Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for a transfer fee of £146 million a few days earlier, pointing to the fact the owners reinvested the money from that sale straight into sourcing replacements.

During FSG's time at the club, they have never really spent big unless they have sold a player with a decent market value.

Ready

Borussia Dortmund signed Bellingham from Birmingham for a transfer fee of €23 million back in the summer of 2020.

Leaving home and playing for a big club overseas takes courage. But, Bellingham has made the transition look simple.

Teammate Mats Hummels has praised the Englishman's maturity in the past.

"Mario Gotze was already a magnificent footballer at that age, he took his football very seriously. But Jude is the most mature 18-year-old player I've ever seen. He's already a leader and also one of the most vocal in the team” the centre-back told Bundesliga.com back in September 2021.

“He's a fantastic footballer, and a fantastic guy. I think I've told him about 25 times now that I just love him. He's on his way to the very top, there's no doubt about that.”

Therefore, we are confident that if Liverpool did give the Englishman a chance, he would take it with both hands.

Bellingham has made it no secret that he is a fan of former Red Steven Gerrard. Perhaps the midfielder wants to follow in the footsteps of the Scouser.

Only time will tell if Liverpool and Bellingham are to cross paths.
