Jordan Henderson will undoubtedly go down as an all-time Liverpool FC great

Jordan Henderson's Liverpool career has certainly had its highs and lows.

The midfielder arrived from Sunderland for a transfer fee of €18 million back in the summer of 2011.

Due to the hefty fee Liverpool paid to sign Henderson, there was always going to be pressure on him to deliver.

The Englishman struggled to make an immediate impact at Anfield. In fact, the club were considering moving him on 14 months after he joined the club.

It has been confirmed that Liverpool were interested in Fulham's Clint Dempsey at the time and were willing to sell Henderson to get their man.

But, he opted to stay at Anfield and fight for his place.

"That was a difficult moment I remember very clearly," Henderson told The Guardian back in January 2021.

"We were preparing for a (Europa League qualifying) game against Hearts at Anfield. We met as normal in the hotel and I got a knock on my door saying the manager wanted to speak to us.

"To be fair to Brendan Rodgers (the Liverpool boss at the time), it was really just a conversation. It was an opportunity (to leave for Fulham) I didn't want and I didn't like. I still felt I had an awful lot to give."

Henderson was spot on. He did have a lot more to give. The midfielder showed his worth during the 2013-14 campaign.

Henderson scored five goals and registered seven assists across 40 appearances. As the midfielder grew in confidence, his leadership skills flourished.

After Steven Gerrard moved on from the club at the conclusion of the 2014-15 campaign, Henderson became the obvious choice for captain.

However, little did we know that he would go on to become one of the greatest leaders in the club's history.

Henderson has lifted the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League title and League Cup as captain of Liverpool.

The 31-year-old has also gone on to find the back of the net 33 times and secure 57 assists in 433 appearances for the club's first-team.

Overall, Henderson has developed into a seriously good footballer and leader.

But, after everything that has happened, he certainly does not take anything for granted.

"I was in a very dark place at that time (the beginning of my Liverpool career). It made us a lot stronger and a lot wiser later on and, without that, you never know what could have happened," the Reds captain told The Guardian just over a year ago.

"So I really cherish them moments because you need setbacks, you need adversity. You get back up, and it makes you stronger because you want to prove people wrong. Ever since that day I had something in me.

"I needed to prove to the manager I would get in his team eventually. I'd do absolutely everything to be in his team, this football club, and I'd prove them wrong. In the end, I did."

Despite what Henderson has achieved in recent years, plenty of Liverpool supporters are still not convinced by him. Perhaps it's because he's not a world-class footballer? Who really knows.

But, all we will say is that you can't please everyone. As far as we are concerned, Henderson will go down as a legend of the club.

Despite the challenges that have been thrown at the midfielder, he has never given up, which makes him a brilliant role model for the younger generation.

Henderson, 31, is contracted until June 2025. With that being the case, there is a fair chance that he could finish his career with Liverpool.

Henderson is still performing to a high level. He has been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 6.92 across the 2021-22 Premier League campaign.

As long as Henderson keeps on performing, there is a fair chance that he will see out his contract.

Hopefully Henderson can add a few more trophies to his collection before that time comes.
