It's about time that Thiago Alcantara has a bit of luck with injuries
Liverpool possess a top midfielder in Thiago Alcantara. There is a reason why the Spaniard has played for the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
Back in November 2020, former Red Xabi Alonso highlighted that one of the best midfielders in the world played for the Reds.
"I have loved watching Thiago Alcantara, the way he has been able to connect with the attacking players, helping to defend with his special qualities," Alonso told UEFA’s official website, as quoted by Metro.
"He’s a great friend, but above that, he’s become one of the best midfielders, and he’s a fabulous, intelligent, interesting, fun guy to be around in a training session and a dressing room.
"He loves football; he shows that with his personality and with the way he plays. He’s able to connect with his teammates very easily.
"He’s done it fantastically at Bayern, and I feel that he’s going to do it in the same way at Liverpool, and I love it."
But, there is no denying that Liverpool fans are yet to see the best of Thiago since he joined the club from Bayern Munich for a transfer fee of €22 million.
The 30-year-old has struggled with illness and injury during his time at Anfield. Thiago has scored three goals and registered one assist in 45 appearances for Liverpool.
Thiago is coming off a hip injury, which kept him out of action for over a month.
However, the midfielder made his return against Cardiff City at Anfield last weekend. Now that Thiago is fully fit again, everyone associated with the club is hoping that he can stay injury-free.
As you can see in the footage here, the midfielder is very good at controlling the tempo of a football match.
In other words, Thiago is not shy of getting on the ball.
Back in September 2020, he made his debut for Liverpool against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Thiago came on as a second-half substitute. Despite only being on the pitch for 45 minutes, the midfielder completed more passes (75) than any Chelsea player managed in the full 90 minutes.
Liverpool winger Sadio Mane was certainly impressed with Thiago's Liverpool debut.
The Senegal international told the club's official website the following: “From his first game I was impressed because I didn’t think he would be that impressive on the pitch!
“It is coming slowly, slowly and I think he is reaching his best level, which is very good for us and for Liverpool Football Club.
“I can’t wait. We are looking forward to seeing more of this – his magic! – to help the team together.”
When Thiago has played for Liverpool this season, he has performed reasonably well.
The Spaniard has been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.07 in the Premier League.
Hopefully he is available for the remainder of the season. Liverpool have a great chance of winning the Champions League this year.
The Reds will face Inter Milan in the last-16 of the competition later this month. Thiago has won the European Cup twice in his career.
Therefore, his presence out on the pitch would be handy come the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Also, Liverpool are still a slight chance of claiming the Premier League title. The Reds sit in second-place on the table. Liverpool are nine points behind league leaders Manchester City with a game in hand.
The Reds will face the Citizens on the 9th of April at the Etihad Stadium. Again, Thiago is certainly a player capable of swinging the title race in Liverpool's favour.
We wish the Spaniard all the best for the remainder of the season.
