The 2021-22 campaign has come to an end.

The season was a relatively successful one for Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp's team competed for the quadruple.

But, they only managed to win the domestic cup double. But, to challenge for the quadruple, you need everyone to pull their weight.

We thought what we would take a look at the most improved players across the season.

Lachlan Ballingall - Kostas Tsimikas

Liverpool signed Tsimikas from Olympiacos for a transfer fee of £11.70 million back in the summer of 2020.

The left-back's debut season at Anfield did not go to plan. Tsimikas was brought in as cover for Andy Robertson.

But, the Scotland international played nearly every game during the 2020-21 campaign. Tsimikas struggled with health and injuries in his first 10 months at the club.

Therefore, he only made seven appearances for the club in that particular season.

However, Tsimikas showed his worth this campaign. When the left-back was given an opportunity to play, he took it with both hands.

The Greece international averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.07 across the 2021-22 campaign (26 appearances). Tsimikas registered six assists and scored the winning penalty in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

Tsimikas revealed that it was his first-ever penalty in competitive football, which made it all the more impressive.

“I went (on) because Robbo (Andy Robertson) had the cramps," he said, as quoted by talkSPORT.

“At the end (Jurgen Klopp) asked me which number I want, I said to him seven, I thought maybe he wanted to put me earlier but it was the number I chose from the start and I’m very very glad for that.”

Tsimikas added: "It was only the first one and maybe I will shoot more often now."

Due to the aforementioned reasons, he has been my most improved player this season.I don't think we could have asked for much more from Tsimikas.

Hopefully he can kick on next campaign. Tsimikas is contracted until the summer of 2025.

Charlie Webb - Joel Matip

A lot of players have improved this season. Honestly, most of the team has. However, some have been more marginal than others.

Sadio Mane rediscovered his goalscoring form and Diogo Jota also continued to play well under Jurgen Klopp.

However, my most improved player is someone who I think has flown massively under the radar this season.

Joel Matip. The Cameroonian has always been a great player for the Reds, but this season, he has really stepped up his game.

Luckily, the 30-year-old has managed to stay fit for the entire campaign and that has allowed him to string a run of games together without being impacted by injuries.

As a result of staying fit, the Cameroonian has managed to play 43 games for the Reds this season, which is the most games he has played in a single campaign for Liverpool.

He has also improved with his attacking output. Thanks to his mazy runs into midfield and his aerial prowess, he’s managed to score three goals and register three assists this campaign.

It wouldn’t be controversial to say that he has been our best defender this season, even better than his centre-back partner Virgil van Dijk.

It’s unfortunate that Matip doesn’t get this type of recognition from other fanbases or pundits, but we know the truth. Matip is one of the best defenders in the world and he has proved that this season.

The fact we signed him on a free transfer and he is now a key part of our starting XI just highlights how much Klopp rates him.

Even though Ibrahima Konate has also impressed this season, I’m still expecting Matip to be Van Dijk's partner in crime going forward.

Hopefully he can stay fit and continue this amazing run of form for the Reds.
